Baby Its Cold Outside

November flew by…good riddance,on with the good winter month, December! Christmas, jolliness, indulgence, presents and our last hurrah before 2009 shits all over the fan. There is always more going on in December, more gigs,plays,parties/drinking. Tis the crack!

Our pal and fellow label mate from the southern hemisphere Liam Finn is playing in Whelans on December 7th. We did a Irish tour with him on his first and last visit to Ireland,Liam and the gang are major dudes! His debut album I`ll Be Lightning is awesome, but live is where its at with Liam Finn, backed up by pal, instrumentalist and singer EJ Barnes. Liam takes a loop pedal to a whole new level, its incredible and in some songs he joins in on his own loops thumping the shit out of a set of drums.

We will be supporting Liam in Whelans on the 7th.

The Button Factory on the 18th is our big one for 2008. We can`t wait, and we have two sweet supports for it.

Armoured Bear released their Honeycomb Moons the same day we released Blackbird,it is great album and got some of the best album reviews of the year.

Laura Sheeran is one of the most interesting performers in Ireland, her music contains evolving moods and phrases provided by spaced out voices and coy instrumentation.  Check out her other project Fovea Hex. Can`t wait to see her live…

Cathy Davey has one more gig for us in the Drogheda Arts Center on the 20th. Cathy is taking her band of babes on the road again in December, come and say yo. For those still in Dublin on the 22nd she will be rockin Tripod.

Apparently Jape are doing a gig around Christmas sometime also?

Beach House

Beach House were excellent last night! Their blissful tunes seaped into every pore in the room. Singer Victoria Legrand`s voice delved a whole lot deeper live, leaving many a man and my girlfriend weak at the knees. The surprisingly young looking guitarist Alex Scally played so beautifully. Bahind their too cool to care and shy exteriors, I think they really do care and seemed appreciative of the crowds response. The songs are simply killer. Devotion is definitely in my top albums of the year.

This song Gila was my highlight of the gig…

I wish our next album artwork will look like this. After All explain themselves:

“We are a creative duo specializing in bringing
people together, brand consultancy and
identity development.
We are located in Los Angeles, California.
We always open.“

These designs in particular stand out but all their projects look amazing. The last design `Tearburst`is such a feast for the eyes.

Lykke Li? Cool!

We are supporting Lykke Li on Monday night in The Button Factory. Sweet! Cormac and I saw her in The Sugar Klub last time,it was off the hook/charts/chain/heezy?,so Monday should be great in a much better venue. Lykke is hotter than the sun right now, hopefully the crowd won`t put some kinda hip hateful jedi mind tricks on us…

We`re also doing another show next Saturday 29th with that dude Cathy Davey,in The Glor Theatre, Co. Ennis. The venue is a hidden gem according to those who have played there before. Anyone at a loose end in Ennis on Saturday night, come on down!

Beach House in Whelans on Thursday will be cool..

Ok,bye for now.

November Rain

axel-rain

So,tomorrow were on the road with Miss Davey. Its a Amnesty International Fundraiser,so rocking for a good cause n`that. She`s got a heart of gold. Cormac and i will be playing with her also..Cormac Curran twice in one night! Thats worth the 20 oh-ohs alone.. Cathy is also doing a `bare bones tour`this month. A smaller, stripped down show in lovely small venues, most will probably have real fires burning in their front bars. Cathy,Conor,Caroline and Cormac will be travelling like ghost ships in the night to the cosiest nooks in Ireland, opening there bag of tricks, then vanishing like they were never there. Try and catch them. One Day will be in Glor with Cathy on the 29th.

Thursday we`re supporting Bell x1 in Our Beloved Vicar St. The bell 11`s are letting go of new material and showcasing new band members. Our show is the last of three nights there,so really looking forward to it. The really really good bands Halves and Villagers are supporting on the other nights. Danny and Cormac are playing with Villagers also..more about that later.

We are creating a little nook of our own in the corner of a large country abode, shared with some of our forementioned friends. If anyone has a spare lamp or kettle they want rid of,put it in a plastic bag and leave it in the forecourt of the Mace garage in Naas Town.. There are dogs to pet and fields to roam whenever we feel the need, and the ghosts of Womack and Womack to guide us in the right direction(True). The plan is to get the guts of our next album written down there. Lets just get through the winter first.

Much more to do and say in November…We`ll be doing live recordings for The View and some Today Fm shows. When we know times n`that we`ll post them up.

I listened to Donal Dineen while doing this,he is the master.
