Adam Snyder

We’re going be joined for the show this Friday 31st in The Roisin Dubh, Galway by Adam Snyder. Adam played keyboards with Mercury Rev from 2000-2005 around the time they released the Deserter Songs albums. This was one of the albums that encouraged us to contact Greg Calbi about mastering “Blackbird.” Adam’s in Ireland to do a show with Mercury Rev in Waterford the night before then he’s going to jump on a bus, we’re gonna lend him a guitar so he can play some of his wonderful songs from his latest album, “This Town Will Get It’s Due.”

His Myspace is here

Bye Bye Polaroid

The master photographer Richie Gilligan did our press and album photos for Blackbird. The photos used on the album in-lay were taken in beautiful Polaroid film, the love of his life. As Polaroid have very sadly decided to discontinue making products, Richie is paying his respects by having an exhibition of his fine collection of Polaroid shots. It will be open til October 28th in the Monster Truck Gallery, Francis St. It is a beautiful selection of portraits and snapshots. I strongly recommend to anyone interested in life, to go and see his work.

Gig Of The Week

Those cool dudes at The Irish Times gave us Gig of The Week in their weekly entertainment review, The Ticket. We played to a small, quiet gathering on a wet Tuesday night in Limerick.. Heres what they said.

“Sounding like a cross between Elbow and Coldplay,One Day International played upstairs in Dolans, Limerick, on Tuesday night to an attentive audience enchanted by Matt Lunson`s delicate vocals and the band`s soulful sound.  Alongside Lunson were Cormac Curran on piano, Danny Snow on bass, Ross Turner on drums and Eimear O`Grady on cello.“

There was a lovely picture too.  The Irish Times is the most respected paper in the land, so we were very chuffed.  Thanks to them.

Since Limerick we`ve played U.C.D, supporting Cathy Davey.  What we thought would be a shitty one for us turned out to be cool, certain students taking particular shines to Eimear and Cormac! Cormac, Danny and I also played with Cathy, so it was a fun night.  Although the dressing room is the mens toliet!  They kindly covered up the toilet pots with black plastic bags, some funny moments when fellas made there way into the toliet only to find Cathy Davey staring back at them : D

We played a nice little show in The Spirit Store, Dundalk.  Our expectations are still modestly low for people turning upto the first set of headline shows, but we got a nice reception in Dundalk, its a cool place. Also, the best chips we`ve ever had were found around the corner from the venue..O`Hanlons i think it was called, unbelievable!

We`re rocking the Academy supporting Mundy tomorrow night and the apparently beautifyly converted cinema Pavillion in Cork on Friday, so we look forward to that.

While writing this i`ve been listening to Roots Manuva`s latest album Slime & Reason. It is excellent.

See yo.

We played our last show supporting Lisa Hannigan last night : (.  Lisa & co kindly let us support them for three shows. Dublin,Belfast & Galway. Dublin(the button factory) was a particular highlight for us..we love that venue. Lisa`s band were amazing every night we saw them, and she is obviously loving every minute of it. Its a wonderful thing to see talent like that in full flow. Her fella`s and crew are some major dudes! They couldn`t have been nicer or more accomodating. Go and buy her album, and when they return from America go see her live, before America keeps her for themselves. We wish them luck in the Americae.

The crowds were lovely to us too..we`re looking forword to getting around the country and hopefully seeing some people!
